Dwayne Bravo popularly known as DJ Bravo has stunned the cricketing world by announcing his retirement from the Caribbean Premier League, the decision came as a shock to the fans as he has been one of the star players of the shortest format of the game. Speaking of his records, Bravo has picked a whopping 600 wickets in the T20 league, and in CPL he has been a part of bigger franchises like St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, and Trinbago Knight Riders.

Dwayne Bravo has been a part of more than 100 CPL matches where he grabbed 128 wickets- the highest in the league. He wrote an emotional post expressing his feelings: “It’s been a great journey. Today I would like to announce my retirement from @cplt20. This season will be my last one ☝ and I’m looking forward to a playing my final professional tournament in front of my Caribbean ppl! @tkriders – where it all started for me and will end with my team that I help built from scratch!”

A Remarkable Career in T20 Cricket

In addition to topping the CPL’s wicket-taking statistics and establishing himself as one of the premier fast bowlers in IPL history, Bravo holds the record for the most wickets in T20 matches globally. Earlier this year, the 40-year-old ex-West Indies cricketer was appointed by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) as their fast bowling consultant, just days before the start of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Dwayne Bravo called it a day on his international cricket career in 2021, following the West Indies’ unsuccessful bid to defend their title at the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Though he had initially announced his international retirement in 2018, he made a comeback to represent the Caribbean teams.

Retirement from International Cricket and IPL

Bravo, a pivotal player for the Chennai Super Kings, departed from the IPL after the team won its fifth title. Since then, he has been the team’s bowling coach, guiding pacers such Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande. He continues to play for CSK’s sister franchise, the Texas Super Kings, in Major League Cricket.

Dwayne Bravo’s exit from the Caribbean Premier League is a significant loss for the tournament, international cricket, and the West Indies team. His departure decreases the presence of one of the league’s most successful players and seasoned warriors, perhaps affecting the CPL’s competitive edge and star power.

Bravo’s departure from the West Indies means losing a seasoned veteran whose guidance and experience were priceless, particularly when it came to coaching younger players and motivating the group with his explosive exploits. His departure might cause a discernible vacuum in the West Indies team’s strategic depth and drive, which could have an impact on how well they play in upcoming international competitions.
