Japan and Indonesia locked horns in the one-off match in the T20I tri-series in South Korea at the Yeonhui Cricket Ground in Incheon on September 25. Japan, led by Kendel Fleming, won the game by four runs.

Speaking of the game Fleming won the toss and opted to bat first. He scored 19 off 13 deliveries, but the team struggled to form vital partnerships. Down the order, Ibrahim Takahashi added 19 and Charlie Hinze contributed 18, leading Japan to post a total of 104 for 9. Maxi Koda was the pick of bowlers for Indonesia, who claimed a three-wicket haul. Meanwhile, Kadek Gamantika and Ketut Artawan also provided significant contributions, picking up two wickets each.

Indonesia’s enthusiasm was fleeting as the Japanese spin bowlers struck consistently from the start, reducing them to 35 for 5 by the 11th over of the second innings. Meanwhile, a later partnership between Padmakar Surve (36*) and Gaurav Tiwari (13) of 38 runs from 43 balls kept Indonesia’s hopes alive. However, needing 20 runs off the final over proved too much for them, and they ended their innings at 100 for 6.

Japan and Indonesia will meet again in the ICC Men’s T20WC East Asia Pacific – Sub-Regional ‘B’ 2024, starting on Saturday. This match was part of their preparations for the upcoming fixture. Additionally, Japan will face the Philippines in another pre-World Cup Qualifier on Thursday, September 26, at the same venue and time.
