India to miss skipper Rohit Sharma for one Test match in Australia

The Indian cricket team is prepared to travel to Australia for the 5-match Test series, commencing in Perth on 22 November, though they may need to compete in one Test without captain Rohit Sharma. The situation is not completely understood. It is understood that Rohit has alerted the BCCI that he might need to skip one of the two Tests at the beginning of the series because of a pressing personal matter.

If Rohit Sharma is unavailable to participate in a Test match in Australia, Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is currently performing well, might be considered as his substitute. However, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul are experienced individuals in the opening position.

Rohit has played a vital role in opening India’s batting, especially in challenging Australian conditions. Sharma played in both home Tests against Bangladesh, which India won, and he will lead the Indian cricket team in the upcoming three-test series against New Zealand beginning on October 16th.

Rohit Sharma made his Test debut against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in October 2013.

In the 2020-21 series against Australia, Rohit Sharma captained the Indian Test team to a remarkable victory at the Gabba.

Rohit plays a vital role as captain of the Indian Test team, particularly important for tactics and morale when up against challenging rivals such as Australia. If he misses even a single game against Australia, it will be a big issue for India because the young players will struggle to find a replacement of the skipper and the opener.

Whereas Australia will also look forward on winning this series as they have failed to win a Test series against India since 2014-15, when they emerged victorious with a 2-0 score on their home turf. The latest series, which took place in 2022-23, concluded with India winning by a score of 2-1.
