Southern Super Stars won the Legends League 2024 title in Super Over

Southern Super Stars defeated Konark Suryas Odisha in the Super Over in a thriller of a final in the Legends League Cricket 2024. The final of the season 3 of Legends League Cricket was played on 17th October in the Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar.

Konark Suryas Odisha won the toss and opted to field. After being invited to bat first the Southern Super Stars scored 164/6 in their 20 overs. Hamilton Masakadza scored 83 runs and was the only batter who got going for his team. Martin Guptill (27 runs) and Pawan Negi (33 runs) got off to starts but failed to convert it into a big score. 

Dilshan Munaweera took four wickets for the Konark Suryas Odisha, while Skipper Irfan Pathan and Dinesh Pathania each took one wicket. 

Yusuf Pathan’s madness in Legends League Final

The Konark Suryas Odisha had a horror start to their innings. At one point, they lost 6 wickets for 91 runs and 8 wickets for 118 runs. All the big names; Richard Levi, Irfan Pathan, Kevin O’Brien and Dilshan Munaweera failed with the bat. But Yusuf Pathan held one end and scored a blistering 85 off just 38 deliveries, including 6 fours and 8 sixes. 

Konark Suryas needed 35 runs in 2 overs with 2 wickets in hand when Yusuf Pathan scored 28 runs off Pawan Negi’s bowling in the 19th over. With 7 needed off the last over, Chaturanga de Silva held his nerve and conceded only 6 runs. Konark needed 2 off the last ball, but Yusuf Pathan managed to find the deep square-leg fielder and got run out while attempting the second run, ending the game in a tie. 

The Super Drama

Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan came out to bat in the super over for the Konark Suryas Odisha. Hamid Hassan bowled the super over for the Souther Super Stars. The super over started with a high no-ball and then Konark managed only 2 runs in the next three deliveries. Yusuf Pathan then hit a six off the 4th delivery and was dismissed on the next ball. Richard Levi managed an inside edge off to the fine leg boundary to take Konark’s score to 13 runs. 

Chasing 14 runs, Martin Guptill and Pawan Negi came out to bat for the Southern Super Stars with Diwesh Pathania being the bowler for the Konark Suryas Odisha. Guptill hit the first ball on the roof over the square leg boundary and followed it by hitting a six over the covers. Pathania then came back strongly and bowled Guptill on the third ball. Chirag Gandhi then took a single off the 4th delivery and Pawan Negi then took the single off the 5th ball to finish the game. Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar was houseful with the crowd coming in numbers to watch the legends of the game back in action.
