PCB Press Conference

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan’s new white ball skipper. He will replace former captain Babar Azam who recently stepped down from the position.

The wicket-keeper batter leads Multan Sultan in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He has given excellent results as a skipper in the PSL. The PCB will hope that he continues his form in international cricket as well.

Rizwan is amongst the key members of the Pakistan cricket team in all three formats. Earlier Pakistan tried Shaheen Afridi as the T20I skipper but that decision failed badly. Later on, Babar Azam was re-appointed as the skipper ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. After a poor performance in that tournament, Babar Azam stepped down as the white ball captain. He said he wanted to focus on his fitness and workload.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) posted on their X profile about the press conference of Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and selection committee members Aqib Javed and Azhar Ali. Newly appointed white-ball skipper Mohammad Rizwan and vice-captain Salman Ali Agha were also present.

Mohammad Rizwan has been a consistent performer for Pakistan

Mohammad Rizwan has been one of the most consistent players for Pakistan in the last couple of years. He has scored runs in all three formats. He has 509 runs in 11 innings in tests this year. His average is 50.90 – including two fifties and a century.

In ODIs this year, Rizwan has 1023 runs in 23 innings at an average of 63.90 at a strike rate of 93.80. He has 8 fifties and a century in the ODIs in 2024. In T20Is he has scored 516 runs in 16 games at an average of 46.90 but he has a problematic strike rate of 122.

Pakistan recently defeated England 2-1 after losing the first game of the series. Earlier they were defeated by the USA in the T20 World Cup 2024. And then, Bangladesh defeated them in a home test series. White ball coach Gary Kirsten has also resigned from his position and Jason Gillespie will replace him in the upcoming Australia tour.
