USA Cricket have sacked head coach Stuart Law with immediate effect. According to Cricbuzz, there are serious allegations against Law on the basis of ‘discrimination, mistrust and favouritism’.
It was only in April earlier this year that Law was appointed as the head coach for USA. The confirmation of the former Australian cricketer’s axe comes in the middle of a series. USA are playing Scotland and Nepal, and these games are a part of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 (2023-27) which is crucial for the qualification of the 2027 World Cup.
The decision to move on from Law came after USA’s 10-wicket defeat to Scotland on Friday (October 25). Captain Monank Patel and about 7-8 members of the squad are reported to have issues with Law. They believe that the 56-year-old has carried out ‘discrimination, mistrust and favouritism’ towards a certain section of players.
According to reports, it is believed that the tension between the players and Law started growing during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 earlier this year. That continued on the tour of the Netherlands as well.
USA Players wrote a letter, complaining about Law
In fact, sources reveal that the USA players even wrote a letter explaining how the ‘malicious outlook’ of Law towards a few players disrupted the entire morale and team environment. Moreover, there are allegations against Law that he tried to turn players against the skipper Monank Patel using various lies and has used several ‘discriminatory tactics’ against a few players.
According to reports, the USA batter Milind Kumar admitted that Law did not have time to give him inputs on his batting or review his performances.
Law has been a renowned coach around the cricketing circles for a while now. He retired back in 2009 and has taken up coaching since then. He has been a part of the coaching setup for Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and West Indies in the past.
Under Law, USA had a memorable and historic outing in the T20 World Cup 2024. They beat Pakistan in a nail-biting Super Over encounter and Canada to progress to the Super Eight stage of the tournament. They are currently second on the points table of the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two 2023-27 with seven wins and three losses.
USA have two more games lined up. They face Scotland on the 31st of October before taking on Nepal on the 2nd of November.
