Gujarat Titans (GT) are all set to retain their two big superstars. Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan are going to be the top retentions for the IPL 2022 champions. The other names that are likely to be retained are Sai Sudharshan, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan.
The latter two will be the uncapped retentions. GT are likely to shell out INR 4 crore for each of those two players. Moreover, it is understood (according to reports) that Gill has agreed to take a pay cut and settle for a sum of INR 14 crore. Rashid is set to be the top player with a fee of INR 18 crore. That means GT will have at least INR 51 crore deducted from their auction purse of INR 120 crore if the retentions are according to the salary slabs set by the BCCI.
Gill has been GT’s talisman with the bat. He has racked up 1799 runs at an average of 44.98 and a strike-rate of 147.70 in the last three editions. He struck a staggering 890 runs in the 2023 season. Meanwhile, Rashid is still one of the best T20 bowlers going around the world. He has taken 56 scalps in 45 IPL games in the last three years and add to that, his uncanny hitting ability with the bat.
Sudharshan’s name may surprise a few. Especially when it has come ahead of the big names like David Miller and Mohammed Shami. However, the Tamil Nadu left-hander was GT’s leading run-getter in 2024 and amassed 527 runs at an average of 47.90 with a strike-rate of 141.28.
GT might overlook Shami, Miller
Shami has returned with 48 wickets in 33 games at an economy of 8.02 for GT. However, he has been injured for the last one year and has not played any cricket. His rehab has constantly been pushed back which may have prompted the GT team management to overlook him. Meanwhile, Miller has been great as a finisher for Gujarat in the last three years. He has made 950 runs at an average of 45.24 and a strike-rate of 145.26.
Tewatia and Shahrukh have been impressive in the middle-order. Tewatia was bought for a whopping amount of INR 9 crore in the 2022 auction and he has got 492 runs at a strike-rate of 147.75 in the last three seasons for Gujarat. Meanwhile, Shahrukh who was bought for a sum of INR 7.4 crore in the auction the 2024 season made 127 runs while striking at 169.33. Both of these players can chip in with the ball as well.
