Captain Liam Livingstone led from the front to help England defeat the West Indies in the 2nd ODI. He scored a brilliant 124* runs which helped the visitors win the match by 5 wickets.
England lost the first ODI by 8 wickets (DLS method). It was a do-or-die game for them and the English team came back strongly to level the series. Batting first, West Indies scored 328 runs.
Skipper Shai Hope (117 runs) scored his 17th ODI century and was the best batter for the hosts. Keacy Carty scored 71 runs. Hope and Carty had a 143-run partnership. Sherfane Rutherford (54 runs) continued his good form. He also had a 79-run partnership with the skipper.
Shimron Hetmyer (24 runs), Roston Chase (20* runs) and Matthew Forder (23* runs) also chipped in with important contributions. John Turner and Adil Rashid picked up 2 wickets each. Skipper Livingstone and Archer picked up one wicket each.
England stays alive in the series
Chasing 329 runs, England got off to a decent start. They lost Will Jacks (12 runs) for 37 runs in the 5th over. Jordan Cox (4 runs) was also dismissed cheaply. Then Jacob Bethell (55 runs) joined Phil Salt (59 runs). Both steadied the ship with a 44-run partnership.
After Salt’s dismissal, skipper Liam Livingstone joined Bethell. They stitched 53 runs between them before Bethell’s dismissal. Sam Curran (52 runs) complimented Livingstone and both had a 140-run partnership in just 107 deliveries. This partnership turned the game on its head.
England were 160-4 at one point but the score was 300 when Curran got out in the 46th over. Livingstone then scored 24 runs including 3 sixes and a four off Shamar Joseph in the 47th over to seal the deal for his side.
This victory will boost the morale in the English camp as they’ll be eyeing a series win in the 3rd and final ODI. There is room for improvement with the ball but the batters did well in the second ODI.
Both sides will be against each other in a 5-match T20I series after the 3rd ODI. The first T20I of the series will be played on 10th November in Barbados.
