Indian batter Shubman Gill scored 90 runs during India’s first innings of the ongoing test match against New Zealand.
Gill was the highest scorer for the Indian team in the first innings. He played a key role with the bat. His knock helped India take an important 28-run lead on a very difficult pitch for batting.
After the knock, Gill termed this knock as his “personal best” in test cricket. The pitch at the Wankhede Stadium has turned square and we’ve seen 29 out of 40 wickets fall on the first two days.
He said, “One of my better knocks in Test. To have· a consistent mindset while playing spinners. We were trying to put them under pressure. We were having fun. It is difficult for bowlers to bowl consistently if we keep hitting them”.
He further added, “I worked on my game· before the England series started. I didn’t get that much time because of injury. Before the Pune Test, I got net sessions. Conversations with the coach were to have more repetition of the practice I do”.
“I’ve been having a great year I was confident going into this game. When you are playing for the country, you enjoy it”, Gill concluded.
Shubman Gill continued his good form in test cricket this year
Shubman batted positively and stitched an important 96-run partnership with Rishabh Pant (60 runs). India will be hoping for a similar performance from the young batter in the second innings as well.
He wasn’t in the best form coming into this game but overall he has had an excellent year with the bat till now. He has scored 805 runs in 18 test innings this year. He is averaging 50.30 including 3 fifties and 3 hundreds in 2024.
New Zealand were 143 ahead of India at the end of Day 2. They are 9 wickets down and the Indian side will be eager to restrict them quickly and then chase down the target. It won’t be easy for them as the pitch at the Wankhede Stadium has been really tough for batting.
