The 2022 IPL champions, Gujarat Titans, appointed former Indian wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel as their new assistant and batting coach.
He will replace former South African player Gary Kirsten in the role. Kirsten left after being appointed Pakistan’s head coach in white-ball cricket. Interestingly, he left that position, too, just after six months.
Ashish Nehra will continue being the head coach for the Titans. The Gujarat Titans shared the news on their social platforms. They posted on their ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), “Aapdo Gujju chokro Parthiv Patel joins Gujarat Titans as Assistant and Batting Coach”.
“Pleased to announce Parthiv’s appointment”: Gujarat Titans
The franchise released a statement regarding Patel’s appointment. It said that his experience and knowledge will be important for the team. Parthiv will also play a key role in the mega auction strategies for the franchise. The mega auction will be on November 24th-25th in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
“The Gujarat Titans are pleased to announce the appointment of Parthiv Patel as their new Assistant and Batting Coach. With a distinguished 17-year career as a former Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Parthiv brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team.
As the Titans prepare for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Parthiv’s insights into batting techniques and strategies will play a crucial role in enhancing the players’ skills. Parthiv is known for his sharp cricketing acumen and ability to mentor young talent. He will strengthen the coaching staff and contribute to player development and performance”.
Patel has been part of many IPL franchises throughout his career. He has played for the Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The former Indian wicket-keeper was earlier with the Mumbai Indians as their talent scout.
Gujarat Titans have retained Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudarshan, Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia for IPL 2025. They have INR 69 crores left in their purse for the mega auction.
