Former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist and former England captain Michael Vaughan were talking on the Club Prairie Fire YouTube channel. Michael Vaughan has shared his “out of the world” theory about wicketkeeping which Adam Gilchrist didn’t like it at all.
According to Vaughan’s theory, many teams now have more than one wicket-keeper in the playing eleven. So teams can use the other keeper who’s playing purely as a batter to replace the player who’s been keeping for a long time.
In the video shared on Instagram, Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan were involved in a fun conversation while talking about the idea.
Australia have the likes of Alex Carey and Josh Inglis in their playing eleven. India has Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel. KL Rahul too can keep wickets. Like this, almost all the teams now have more than one wicket-keeper in their playing eleven.
Explaining Vaughan’s theory Gilchrist said that teams can use the keeper who’s better with the spinners to keep wickets for them and then the keeper who’s better keeping to the pacers can keep wickets for them.

Vaughan said, “Gilly didn’t like it but it’s common sense”. He gave an example that Gilchrist scored 150 off just 60 deliveries (jokingly) and then he’s a bit tired. Then he doesn’t need to keep wickets and can ask another keeper in the team to keep the wickets for the rest of the day (in a test match).
Gilchrist asked the question of whether the keepers would have to switch every over based on their preference. The former English skipper, in his defense, said that he has a better idea and it’s that the keepers can decide from which end they’d like to keep wickets.
To which one of the show’s hosts said, “You’re a visionary, you should’ve kept it to yourself”. And Adam Gilchrist then said, “I’ll tell you why because it’s a load of sh*t”.
