Former Indian cricketer WV Raman has suggested the BCCI take help from the former Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar. The Indian batters struggled really badly in the last series against New Zealand.
Skipper Rohit Sharma scored 91 runs and Virat Kohli scored 93 runs in the 3-match series against the Kiwis. Raman has suggested that India should take the services of Tendulkar as their batting consultant for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Playing spin was considered India’s strength but in the last series, none of the batters showed any signs of comfort against the spinners. At this point, only Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal seem to be the ones in good form.
The conditions in Australia will be different but Nathan Lyon has troubled the visitors in the past. Virat has been dismissed 7 times by Lyon in tests and he has dismissed Indian skipper Rohit Sharma 9 times in the longest format.
Sachin Tendulkar’s stellar record in Australia
Roping in Tendulkar as the batting consultant can be a great move. We’ve already seen him talking about the technicalities of the game on social media or in commentary.
Sachin also has an excellent record down under. Since 2003, he has 1163 runs in 23 innings in Australia. He averages 58.20 and has 3 centuries and 5 fifties to his name.
Kohli too has played a similar number of matches and has a better record in Australia compared to Tendulkar. He has played 25 innings for his 1352 runs at an average of 54.10. Kohli has 6 hundreds and 4 centuries to his name in tests in Australia.
Virat loves playing in Australia and despite his poor current form, he’ll be in for a good series with the bat. Rohit Sharma too will be eager for a comeback with the bat and to lead the side from the front. He’ll miss the first test in Perth.
