Former Indian player Harbhajan Singh has said that India has a 50-50 chance of winning the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Harbhajan also highlighted India’s last series loss against New Zealand at home. He said that it must’ve shaken the confidence of the players. He’s also said that it’s not very worrying as conditions down under will be very different.
The former off-spinner was talking to commentator Jatin Sapru on his YouTube channel. Bhajji expects the batters to come good in this marquee series.
He said, “It’s 50-50. I am not considering the cricket India played recently because the conditions were different. Even solid batters gave the feeling they didn’t know how to bat (against New Zealand).
People were saying that seniors should go and play Ranji Trophy. That won’t solve the purpose. Australia will have good conditions. Pitches will be good”.
Harbhajan Singh backs KL Rahul for Border-Gavaskar Trophy
The legendary off-spinner is hopeful for a good performance from the batting unit, especially KL Rahul. He further added, “I feel India batters will come good. We need a player like Pujara, who can grind in and make the ball old. KL Rahul has been criticized so much. He is a class player”.
Harbhajan said that Australia will have a slight edge due to their home conditions. And, also emphasized the importance of winning the first test at Perth.
He concluded with, “It will be a 50-50 series. But I will give a slight edge to Australia because they are playing at home and India’s confidence would be a bit shaken.
“The first Test will be very important. If India starts well in Perth, then the team will give a solid fight in the series. If India doesn’t start well, then problems will escalate for India”.
The number of matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy have been increased to 5 tests from 4. It’s been a decade since Australia won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India will look to retain the trophy once again. Meanwhile, Australia will look to give their all to win this series after 10 years.
