The Pakistan National Women’s Championship has been aborted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The decision was taken after a fire incident at the team hotel.
Fortunately, no player or officials were injured in this incident. According to a source, there were 5 players in their rooms when the incident happened. Other players and officials were at the National Stadium in Karachi for matches and net sessions.
According to the source, “Five players were in their rooms when the fire broke out. It has caused damage to some property of the players and officials”. All 5 team players and officials were accommodated on an entire floor booked by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The players who were in the hotel when the fire broke out were swiftly relocated to the Hanif Mohammed High-Performance Centre by the PCB.
According to the official statement released by the Pakistan Cricket Board, four of the five teams were involved in the fifth-round matches of the National Women’s Championship. The Strikers team were in a net session at the same time.
Top two teams to play in final of Pakistan National Women’s Championship
In the official statement, PCB mentions that the players’ health and safety are the top priority. And, the decision to abort the tournament was taken after considering the same.
The PCB couldn’t find any hotels due to the Ideas Defense Exhibition being held in Karachi.
It said in the official statement, “Additionally, the unavailability of alternative accommodations to meet the approximately 100 rooms of the required standards contributed to this outcome”.
The top 2 teams; Invincibles and Stars will face off in the finals of the tournament to determine the winner. Both teams have played 4 matches each so far in the tournament.
“To determine the tournament winner, the PCB has decided that the Invincibles and the Stars – the top two teams after four matches each – will face off in the final. The date and venue for the final will be announced in due course”, says the official statement.
