Australia’s bowling coach Daniel Vettori will leave the Australian side during the first BGT test to attend the IPL 2025 mega auction. Vettori is also the head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League.
The first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India will start on 22nd November. The IPL 2025 mega auction will be in Jeddah, Saud Arabia on 24th-25th November 2024.
Being the head coach of the Sunrisers, Vettori must be there during the marquee mega auction. The former New Zealand captain is also the head coach of the Birmingham Phoenix in the Hundred tournament in England.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad had an exceptional season in IPL 2024 under Vettori. They ended up as the runners-up. SRH played a very aggressive brand of cricket last season and broke many records in the IPL.
Daniel Vettori will be with Australian side after IPL 2025 Mega Auction
Vettori has missed a few series for Australia due to his involvement in franchise cricket. He will leave the Australian side mid-way during the first test at Perth.
Australian team’s spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo, “Dan will complete final preparation for the first Test before attending the IPL auction. He will then be with team for the remainder of the Border Gavaskar Trophy”.
Daniel Vettori was appointed as Australia’s bowling coach for all three formats back in 2022. He has done a good job working with Australian head coach Andrew McDonald.
Cricket Australia (CA) is looking for a full-time ‘national pace bowling coach’ who’ll be there with the side when Vettori misses any tours in the future. Former batter Michael Hussey and former Somerset, Glamorgan and Leicestershire all-rounder Jim Allenby are working with the Australian coaching staff as consultants.
Both of them were with the Australian team in the test series against Pakistan last summer. Australia also played a 3-match T20I series against Pakistan. Fielding coach Andre Borovec was with the T20I squad during that series.
