Australian opener Travis Head has shared his thoughts about the pitch for the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth.
Perth is known to have a pacer-friendly wicket. The fast bowlers get extra pace and bounce off the deck at Perth. Earlier the WACA ground was famous for its pacey nature and now the Optus Stadium too is expected to behave like this.
Batters who are new to the Australian conditions can have a difficult time at the venue. Travis Head was talking in the Unplayable Podcast. He said that there are some parts of the wicket (pitch) that can be terrifying.
He said, “I do know that I’ve enjoyed batting here – in parts. There are parts of this wicket that can be terrifying, simple as that. I think everyone’s talked about that. Depending on where the wicket goes to on day three, four and five, it can be challenging”.
India will be without Rohit Sharma in the first test. Shubman Gill’s availability is a concern as well. India may have the likes of Devdutt Padikkal and ABhimaynu Easwaran alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in their top 3.
The Travis Head threat for India
Travis Head loves playing against India. He has always performed against the men in blue in important games. He scored a brilliant century in the 2023 WTC final and followed it by a century in the 2023 World Cup final against India.
Head scored 416 runs in 8 innings against India in tests in 2023. He averaged 59.40 including a century and a fifty. In 2023, he scored 226 runs in 4 ODIs against India at an average of 75.30.
The Southpaw has a 40+ average at the Perth Stadium. He will be a key player for his side in the middle order and a big threat for the visitors on this tour. The Indian batters will have to be on their toes, especially the experienced players like Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul.
