Former Australia cricketer Stuart MacGill has been charged with allegations of setting up a big drug deal. The former leg-spinner has also played 44 test matches for Australia and 3 ODIs.
He is undergoing a trial in Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court for his involvement in a 330k Australian Dollars cocaine deal. MacGill was kidnapped by some goons on 14th April 2021. He was abducted, stripped and beaten by several men as per the Australian Associated Press (AAP).
He was being held hostage for ransom money. The six men involved in his kidnapping are still under trial.
The court was informed that MacGill was alleged to have facilitated the supply of 1kg of cocaine in the suburbs of a locality (Neutral Bay) on Sydney’s lower north shore on 8th April 2021.
As per the Aussie media, prosecutor Gabrielle Steadman told the jury that MacGill was a regular cocaine user.
“I know I’ve done nothing wrong”: Former Australia cricketer
As per the reports, MacGill introduced the person from whom he regularly bought cocaine to his brother-in-law Marino Sotriopolous to supply the drug dealer 1kg of cocaine worth 330,000 Australian dollars.
The former Australian cricketer was in a relationship with Sotriopolous’ sister Mario O’Meagher. They both ran a restaurant “Aristotle’s”. MacGill was also accused of organizing regular meetings between the drug dealer and his brother-in-law.
The jury was told that the former leg-spinner also complained to the drug dealer about the quality of the drugs and told him that his brother-in-law could get better drugs in large quantities.
Steadman told the jury, “The accused facilitated the meeting so that Person A could be· supplied with cocaine”. MacGill is mainly accused of setting up a meeting between the drug dealer and his brother-in-law.
The hearing is expected to last between five to seven days regarding MacGill’s role in this incident. Back in 2021 he talked about the incident where he said ‘I know I’ve done nothing wrong’.
