India got bowled out for just 150 runs in the first innings of the Perth Test. Cheteshwar Pujara has expressed his views about India’s approach with the bat.
Two players (Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal) got out for a duck from India’s top 3. Virat Kohli managed only 5 runs. Dhruv Jurel (11 runs) and Washington Sundar (4 runs) also failed to contribute with the bat.
Recently, India’s batting has been pretty inconsistent. We saw that in the last series against the Kiwis at home and now the batting unit failed in this innings too.
The Indian team management has said that they want the batters to play an aggressive brand of cricket. Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara, who’s at the moment, not in the Indian test squad has criticised India’s approach with the bat.
“Old school cricket is also important”: Cheteshwar Pujara
Pujara is doing commentary on Star Sports in the going Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After an early batting collapse for the Indian side, he questioned the ‘aggressive’ approach from the Indian batters.
The former number 3 batter said, “Old school· cricket is also important as you can’t play aggressively every time. You have to play defensively at times. Aggression and defence· are important, and you need to bat according to the situation. Test cricket is about getting adjusted to the needs of a game. You can’t go· in with one style of play”.
Pujara is known for his resilient style of batting. He likes to take his time and bat accordingly. He has been an excellent performer for India in test cricket.
The right-hand batter scored the most runs in the last BGT series in Australia. Back in 2018-19, he scored 521 runs in 7 innings at an average of 74.42 including 3 centuries and a fifty.
India will expect their batters to take responsibility after the bowlers did a phenomenal job with the ball.
