The first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction was absorbing to say the least. The franchises secured the services of 72 players, including 24 overseas stars. Rishabh Pant was the most expensive Indian player, while Jos Buttler stole the limelight as the biggest foreign star in the event.
In a total list of 574 players, 84 went under the hammer on the first day. Day 2 will resume as usual from the 85th player (previously No. 84), Mayank Agarwal. However, the process will be carried out only until the 116th player (now 117), Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, before the auction is expedited. The prominent players like Faf du Plessis, Kane Williamson, Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane make their presence in the list.
Thereafter, each franchise will need to submit a list of 25 players for fast-tracking the auction. Hence, only the players, who are likely to receive a bid from the teams will be going under the hammer in the Accelerated round.
Ahead of the auction, 204 slots were available to fill for the franchises, with 70 spots reserved for overseas players.
