Urvil Patel broke Rishabh Pant's record of scoring fastest T20 century by an Indian player in T20s during SMAT 2024-25.

Gujarat batter Urvil Patel created history on Wednesday (November 27). He slammed the fastest hundred player by an Indian player in the T20 format off 28 balls.

With this knock, he went past Rishabh Pant’s record of scoring a century off 32 balls for Delhi against Himachal in 2018. Estonia batter Sahil Chauhan is first on the list with a 27-ball ton against Cyprus in June 2024:

It all happened in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game between Gujarat and Tripura at Emerald High School Ground in Indore. Invited to bat first, Tripura managed to post a modest total of 155 on the board, with Sridam Paul (57) emerging as the top contributor. Arzan Nagwaswalla was the pick of the bowlers for Gujarat with three scalps.

Thereafter, Aarya Desai and Urvil Patel provided a terrific start to the Gujarat side. Desai played as a second fiddle, as Patel hit the ball right on the screws to turn as a tormentor for the opposition bowlers. The duo stitched a 150-run stand in just 8.5 overs, before Desai was dismissed for 38 off 24.

Urvil Patel went to finish off the chase in 10.2 overs as he remained unbeaten on 113 off 35, with seven fours and 12 sixes. As a result, Gujarat net run rate improved from 0.016 to 1.794. They are now placed second in Group B with two wins in three games.

Surprisingly, Urvil went unsold in the recently concluded IPL 2025 auction. He entered the auction at a base price of INR 30 lakh but found no takers. He was a part of the Gujarat Titans squad in the 2023 season, but didn’t get to play a single game.

How Rishabh Pant became the most expensive acquisition in IPL history?

The Indian keeper-batter Rishabh Pant garnered attention on expected lines in the IPL 2025 auction. After a bidding war between multiple teams, Lucknow Super Giants had a winning bid of INR 20.75 crore. However, his former franchise Delhi Capitals decided to use RTM card for bringing him back to the setup.

As a result, LSG raised their bid to INR 27 crore, which the DC were unable to fulfill in their pursuit of building a potent squad. In this way, Pant became the most expensive player in the cash-rich league’s history. He will ply his trade for LSG and possibly lead them in the IPL 2025 season.

In the last season, Pant slammed 446 runs in 13 games at a strike rate of 155.40 and was the finest batter for the Capitals. However, the franchise chose to release him due to disagreements on certain areas and Pant not meeting their expectations.
