Delhi Capitals (DC) let go of Rishabh Pant before the auction and retained Axar Patel as their top retention.
They also bought KL Rahul for INR 14 crores in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Pant was leading the side and with him gone the big question is who will lead the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025?
KL Rahul was the captain in his previous franchise the Lucknow Super Giants. He has captaincy experience and is a strong contender for leading DC in IPL 2025. DC also picked Faf du Plessis in the mega auction. Faf has led South Africa and did a great job in leading RCB in the last three years. He’s another great option to lead the Capitals.
Axar Patel has been an integral part of DC for a few years now. Earlier reports were that the DC management is considering him as the captain going forward. Now former cricketer turned commentator, Aakash Chopra has also supported this move.
I would say make Axar DC captain: Aakash Chopra
Talking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said, “Who will be the captain? Their situation is like KKR. It could be Axar Patel. I don’t mind him being the captain. If you give me the option, I would say make Axar the captain.
He is extremely underrated, very mature, fantastic performer, and he will run the team very well. He is someone who will command respect”.
“KL Rahul could be· the other option. The third could be Faf du Plessis if they wish so, but they might not play Faf from the start because they used the Right To Match card for Jake Fraser-McGurk”, he further added.
Aakash Chopra concluded with, “So I am thinking between Axar and Rahul but the management hasn’t given any clarity yet. My vote goes towards Axar because his performances on this ground have been exceptional”.
