Bangladesh made a strong comeback after a shaky start to the second test against the West Indies. Pacer Nahir Rana picked up 5 wickets and was the hero for the visitors with the ball.
At the end of Day 3, Bangladesh is 211 runs ahead of the hosts with 5 wickets in hand. Batting first, Bangladesh got bowled out for 164 runs. The West Indian pace trio got through their batting lineup.
West Indies were 85-2 in their first innings looking set to take a decent lead. But the Bangladeshi bowlers led by Nahird Rana triggered a batting collapse. The Windies got bowled out for 146 losing their last 8 wickets for just 61 runs. Nahid Rana picked up 5 wickets with Hasan Mahmud picking up 2. Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up one wicket each.
Keacy Carty (40 runs) was the highest run-scorer for the West Indies. Skipper Kraigg Braithwaite scored 39 runs. Only three West Indian batters managed to reach double digits with the bat.
Batters gave Bangladesh upper hand against West Indies at Sabina Park
Bangladesh took an 18-runs lead in the first innings. Batting second, they lost Mahmudul Hasan Joy in the first over itself. Shadman Islam (48 runs) and Shahadat Hossain (28 runs) added 47 runs for the second wicket.
Skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed with a crucial 42 runs. His 70-run partnership with Shadman Islam helped Bangladesh to a strong position in the test match. Litton Das (29 runs) and Jaker Ali (29* runs) further strengthened the visitors’ lead in the game.
Shamar Joseph picked up 2 wickets for the West Indies. Justin Greaves, Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph picked up one wicket each. Bangladesh will look to take a lead of around 280-300. Jaker Ali and Mominul Haque will be the key batters for them.
On the other hand, West Indies will look to restrict them as quickly as possible and chase down the target. Their batters will have to be on their toes in the second innings. West Indies won the first test by 201 runs.
