Jonty Rhodes hails Mayank Yadav as LSG’s ‘Rolls Royce’ pacer

Former South African cricketer and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fielding coach Jonty Rhodes has praised IPL 2024 genius Mayank Yadav, calling him the “Rolls Royce” of the franchise: Delhi-based Sonnet Cricket Club product Yadav Punjab -Bowling regularly above 145 kmph, Yadav, he captured the eyes of the cricketing world with his exceptional pace in the first match against Kings (PBKS), clocking figures of 3 for 27, his fastest delivery being 155.8 km. Despite Yadav’s promising start, Yadav’s season was cut short when he suffered a strained side in the match against Gujarat Titans, which later developed into lower abdominal pain, ruling him out for the remaining season.

Rhodes spoke to LSG bowling coach Morne Morkel, who initially compared Yadav to South African legend pacer Alan Donald, also known as the “Rolls Royce” of bowlers Morkel praised Yadav’s talent, which allowed the franchise to retain him throughout the season, Even after he was rehabilitated “We believe he is a young talent with great potential,” Rhodes told IANS, stressing that the team was cautious in monitoring Yadav’s progress without overprotecting him.

Yadav’s Impressive Debut and Pace on Display

Yadav’s raw pace was on full display as he hit 156.7 kmph against RCB in IPL 2024 in Bangalore. However, his cricketing journey has been plagued by constant injuries after missing the entire 2023 IPL season and the 2023/24 Ranji Trophy due to an injury sustained in Mumbai and subsequent rehabilitation.

Rhodes emphasized the importance of monitoring Yadav’s work, saying that while raw pace is appealing, it needs to be complemented by skill and accuracy. He compared Umran Malik to another fast bowler who made his debut in the IPL and stressed the need for bowlers like Yadav to remain consistent against top batsmen in tight spots.

Rhodes expressed his hope that Yadav will be fully fit and ready to showcase his talent in the upcoming IPL seasons, be it LSG or any other franchise. “His talent is exciting and if he prepares properly he could be outstanding,” Rhodes said.
