Former Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan shared his thoughts on India’s chances in the Champions Trophy 2025. The showpiece event is set to take place from February 19 to March 9 in Pakistan and Dubai.
As per Dhawan, India stands a good chance to break their 12-year hiatus of winning the Champions Trophy. He feels the Men in Blue have a balanced side with a fine mix of youth and experience.
“There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic for India. They have a very balanced side, especially with the bat – there is a nice blend of experience and youth.”
Shikhar Dhawan opined that the presence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will help India to have a deeper run in the Champions Trophy.
“Shubman Gill, in particular, is so consistent and he has a big role to play. I think he will have a great tournament. Rohit Sharma has found form, Virat Kohli is there; they are a top side and will take some stopping.”
Moreover, Dhawan feels India will miss the services of veteran pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is the finest bowler in world cricket a calm character, according to him. Nevertheless, the former batter lauded young pacer Harshit Rana’s inclusion, and predicted that he could have a ‘breakout’ tournament.
“Harshit Rana has come into the side and I think that is really exciting – keep an eye on him, I think he could have a breakout tournament. I like his attitude, he is a go-getter and he is not afraid of anything.
Notably, India will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai.

Recently, Dhawan expressed his happiness of having contributed to India’s title victory in the Champions Trophy 2013. He said:
“The ICC Champions Trophy means a great deal to me. We won in 2013 and then reached the final in 2017, and both times I finished as leading run-scorer.
“Winning in 2013 was a great achievement, one of the biggest of my career. I scored a century in the first game against South Africa and it was a huge relief because it was my comeback match in ODI cricket.”
