Former batter Mohammad Hafeez put Pakistan team management on blast after the team’s disappointing run in the 2025 Champions Trophy. As per Hafeez, the selectors should avoid giving longer run to their pace trio of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, who have failed to win enough games for Pakistan in the multi-nation events.

Hafeez pointed out the trio being unsuccessful in their attempt to help the Men in Green have a deeper run in every event since 2022. Notably, Pakistan could win only four out of nine games in the group stage of the 2023 World Cup, the tournament they were expected to do well with the subcontinent conditions on offer.

The ongoing Champions Trophy saw Pakistan losing their opening game against New Zealand by 60 runs. They conceded 320 and were bundled out for 260. Rauf took two wickets, but conceded a whopping 83 runs off his 10 overs, while Naseem also secured two dismissals by conceding 63 runs of his full quota. On the other hand, Afridi went wicketless while giving away 68 runs off his 10 overs.

In the game against India, Shaheen Afridi picked up two wickets, but ended up conceding 74 runs off his eight overs. Meanwhile, Naseem Shah (0/37 off 8 overs) and Haris Rauf (0/52 off 7 overs) went wicketless. As a result, Pakistan failed to defend their 241-run total, while Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten century.

With their unimpressive performances, Hafeez feels it’s time the Pakistan selectors give chances to other players, who have proved their merit in the domestic circuit.

“Since the Asia Cup in 2023, we were expecting this trio of Shaheen, Naseem, and Haris to deliver trophies for us. But they’ve been unsuccessful. The 2023 World Cup, a disaster. The 2022 T20 tournament in Melbourne, a disaster. And now, this Champions Trophy, another failure,” Hafeez said on PTV’s coverage of the Champions Trophy.

He added:

“They are not proving themselves capable of helping Pakistan win a big tournament. Let’s move on from them. Let’s bring other people. Let’s go with Mohammad Ali, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Akif Javed, Mir Hamza. These guys are waiting for their chances.”

Mohammad Hafeez fires shots at former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam

During his post-match analysis in the aforementioned interaction, Mohammad Hafeez slammed Pakistan’s key batter Babar Azam for his lackluster showing in big games. Hafeez feels Babar hasn’t risen to occasions in a high-voltage games against India as often as Virat Kohli, who he dubbed as the true king.

“Babar Azam is not the true king. It is Virat Kohli. Look at his performances. He has dominated all over the world. Get out of your PR machinery. We need a performer,” Mohammad Hafeez said on PTV’s coverage of the Champions Trophy.

Moreover, Mohammad Hafeez continued his attack on Babar Azam by questioning his performances in the SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries, where he hasn’t been able to emerge as Player of the Series.
