Indian star pacer Jasprit Bumrah reflected on a productive 2024, which saw him earning plethora of awards. Notably, Bumrah was a recipient of the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year, ICC Men’s Test Player of the Year and was inducted in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year and ICC T20I Team of the Year.
Moreover, the 31-year-old recently won the BCCI’s Polly Umrigar Award for Best Men’s International Cricketer in 2023-24.
In a total of 21 appearances (Tests and T20Is) in 2024, Jasprit Bumrah scalped 86 wickets for the Men in Blue. He finished with 15 wickets at an exceptional average of 8.26 in the T20 World Cup to play a key role in helping India lift the title.
The rest of the 71 wickets came in the longest format for Bumrah, where he dominated the opposition with his searing pace and unmatched accuracy. In particular, Bumrah emerged as the finest bowler in the Border Gavaskar Trophy with 32 wickets, despite India losing the series 3-1.
Notably, Bumrah received the award, while he was in Dubai and attended the India-Pakistan game. Here’s what he said on his achievement in an interaction with ICC.
“The T20 World Cup which we won is always going to be special and will be there in my mind.
“Obviously, a lot of learnings in my mind in the year as well. We played a lot of Test cricket, we got to know a lot of different experiences, so yeah, I’m very happy and hopefully better things will follow.”
Jasprit Bumrah backs Mohammed Shami’s experience in Champions Trophy
Jasprit Bumrah is currently recovering from a back injury, which ruled him out of the Champions Trophy. In place of him, Mohammed Shami is leading the Indian bowling unit, as the side looks to bring home their second title.
In the first game against Bangladesh, Shami returned with terrific figures of 5/53 off 10 overs and also became the fastest bowler from India to reach 200 ODI wickets.
During his interview with ICC ahead of India-Pakistan game, Bumrah expressed his confidence in Shami’s abilities and thinks the veteran pacer will keep getting better as the tournament progresses.
“I’m really happy for him. Obviously he’s had an injury struggle for so long. It takes a toll. But he’s been very happy and very positive,” Jasprit Bumrah said.
“Looks good, he has the skill obviously, that will never go anywhere. The more he plays, the more confidence will come, and hopefully, he’ll help the team go further,” he added.
Notably, Shami returned wicketless, while conceding 43 runs off eight overs against Pakistan. Nevertheless, the Men in Blue sealed the 242-run chase, with Virat Kohli remaining unbeaten on 100.
