Former England batter Kevin Pietersen will join Delhi Capitals as the mentor for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The announcement was made official by the franchise in a collaboration with Pietersen in a social media post on Thursday afternoon.

Notably, Pietersen was a part of the Capitals setup in the 2012 and 2014 season, where he scored 599 runs at an average of around 40 in 19 appearances. Notably, he led the franchise in all his appearances in the 2014 edition. His top score of 103* off 64 came in 2012 against Deccan Chargers.

Kevin Pietersen will join the Delhi Capitals support staff comprising Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao, head coach Hemang Badani, assistant coach Matthew Mott and bowling coach Munaf Patel.

In his official statement, Pietersen expressed his passion for the Delhi-based franchise and also recounted playing alongside Rao in the 2012 edition.

I’ve got incredible memories of representing the Delhi franchise in the IPL, and I’ve been able to maintain that passion for the team even as a broadcaster over the years. I shared the field with Venu (Venugopal Rao) during the 2012 season, and it’s great to be reconnecting with him as we begin a new chapter at this amazing franchise.”

Interestingly, Kevin Pietersen helped Delhi Capitals co-owner GMR acquire a 53% stake in the Hampshire county cricket club last year. Interestingly, it was made possible after the former cricketer continue to share friendly relations with Kiran Kumar Grandhi, GMR’s chairman.

In terms of his T20 experience, Pietersen garnered 5,695 runs at an average of 33.89, with three centuries.

Kevin Pietersen wants to win IPL title for Delhi Capitals

Kevin Pietersen responded to Delhi Capitals’ announcement video of him joining the franchise for the IPL 2025. His message signaled Pietersen’s love for the city and his desire to win the coveted title in the forthcoming season of the cash-rich league.

He wrote:

I’m so excited to come home to Delhi! I have the fondest memories of my time with Delhi. I love the city, I love the fans and I’ll do everything I can to support the franchise in our quest for the title in 2025!

Notably, Delhi Capitals won seven out of 14 league matches in IPL 2024 and finished sixth in the table. Another win or a better net run rate could have helped them reach the playoffs. As per reports, KL Rahul will lead the side in IPL 2025.
