India and Australia media were scheduled to play a T20 game at Oval Junction in Melbourne on Sunday (December 22). However, after Ravindra Jadeja’s Hindi press-conference controversy, several members of the Indian contingent decided to withdraw, resulting in the cancellation of the game.
On Saturday morning, Jadeja appeared to take questions from the reporters in Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). He took questions from Hindi journalists and engaged in a nine-minute discussion. However, the all-rounder had to leave the ground as the team bus was about to depart from the ground to the hotel. As a result, Jadeja couldn’t stay at the ground any longer, according to the team’s media manager.
The clip can clearly see Australian reporters questioning the team’s media manager about Jadeja not taking up their questions and only answering the Indian reporters’ questions. Multiple allegations were made by the Australian reporters on the non-cooperation from Jadeja in the presser, while they also claimed that team’s media manager misbehaved with them.
As per reports, it wasn’t an official press conference and only a limited time was allotted by the Indian team’s media management. It was said to have been organized by the members of the Indian media.
The controversy comes after Virat Kohli’s fiery altercation with journalists in the Melbourne airport. After sensing he was being filmed with his family, Kohli was furious with journalists and told them to respect his privacy. However, the situation was resolved after the Australian reporters confirmed to Kohli that they were not taking pictures/videos of his children.
Ravindra Jadeja returned with an impressive knock in Gabba
The veteran all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja played a valuable knock in the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) test in Gabba. In his only first innings of the series, Jadeja slammed 77 off 123 and helped India to avoid a follow-on and kept the team in good stead heading into the Melbourne test.
The contribution in a crunch situation is likely to keep Jadeja in contention for a spot in the XI in the next two games. His spin could find favor in Sydney, which has been known to offer assistance to the tweakers.
The series is currently tied 1-1 and both teams will look to produce an impressive performance in the fourth test, beginning on December 26. Moreover, both teams also have WTC spots on the line, and the remaining two games will be crucial to gain qualification for the WTC final. Currently, South Africa leads the standings, while Australia and India are second and third, respectively.
