Legendary Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram expressed his admiration for Abhishek Sharma’s talent, as he met up with the young Indian batter. Their meeting happened during the India vs Pakistan clash in the Champions Trophy game in Dubai, where Akram served as the commentator, while Sharma sat in the stands to attend the game.

Abhishek Sharma has been a sensation since making his India debut in July 2024 against Zimbabwe. The call-up came after he smashed 484 runs for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024 and took them to the final.

In his only second T20I, Sharma hit 100 off 47 balls against Zimbabwe in Harare. Despite failing to convert his starts in the coming games, the southpaw sought to play his natural game, irrespective of his final score.

The mindset eventually helped him to win people’s hearts with his sensational knock of 135 off 54 balls against England in Mumbai, which helped Men in Blue to post 247. During the innings, he hit 13 sixes, which is the most by an Indian batter in the T20I format. Interestingly, he took two wickets with the ball, as the Men in Blue won the game by 150 runs.

With this knock, Abhishek Sharma climbed 38 places to cement himself as the No.2-ranked batter in the ICC T20I rankings. Since then, he has been touted as one of the future stars for the Indian team.

Wasim Akram caught with Abhishek Sharma and hailed him for his standout knock and advised him to keep working hard and wished him a great career ahead.

Here’s what Akram can be heard telling Sharma in the video:

“Amazing innings. I saw that innings. Keep it up. This is the start. Abhi 20 saal jaana hai. Keep your head down and keep performing. All the best.”

Shoaib Akhtar was also in awe of Abhishek Sharma’s talent

A few days ago, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar expressed his admiration for Abhishek Sharma as well. He posted a video on X, where he can be seen lauding the young batter for his performance and wishing him luck for future matches.

Interestingly, Akhtar also breathed a sigh of relief for not having to bowl at Sharma. He wrote:

“I am glad that I wasn’t born in this era, and the reason is this young lad. He got a hundred, and it was amazing. I would advise him not to leave his strength and to become friends with people who are better than him. He has got a great life ahead.”

Abhishek Sharma will next be seen in the IPL 2025, representing Sunrisers Hyderabad. Notably, he was one of the five retained players by the franchise.
