One of the game’s legends, former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, has pointed out an issue for Team India after the 10-wicket loss in the Adelaide Test.
India lost the second test at the Adelaide Oval by 10 wickets. The batters were below average for the visitors and it was the main reason for their poor performance.
India failed to score 200 runs even once in their two innings. They got bowled out for 180 in the first innings and 175 in the second. Nitish Kumar Reddy was the highest run-scorer for India in both innings with scores of 42 runs in each inning.
None of the batters except him managed to score even 30 runs in the second inning. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul will have to step up in the third test of the series at the Gabba.
Other bowlers failed to support Jasprit Bumrah in Team India: Adam Gilchrist
Adam Gilchrist, talking in Fox Cricket’s Follow-On Podcast. He said that the Indian bowlers, especially the pacers failed to support Jasprit Bumrah like they did in the first test at Perth.
The former wicket-keeper said, “Coming into the series, the uncertainty for India was what the support act for Bumrah is like”.
He further added, “Siraj and Rana did a really good job in Perth, but they just weren’t up to that same level in Adelaide. That still is the glaringly obvious part of that discussion. Bumrah is at a certain level, and the rest of them aren’t quite there”.
Jasprit Bumrah won the ‘Player of the Match’ award in the first test at Perth. He picked up a total of 8 wickets in that game. He picked up 4 wickets in the first innings of the Adelaide test. Mohammed Siraj also picked up 4 wickets in that inning.
Harshit Rana conceded 86 runs in 16 overs and went wicket-less. Siraj too was expensive as he leaked 98 runs in 24.3 overs for his 4 wickets. The Indian pacers will have to step up in the third test at the Gabba.
