India Women are set to host New Zealand Women for a three-match ODI series later this month. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the dates for the series which is also a part of the ICC Women’s ODI Championship 2022-25.
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host all the three ODIs. The first game will be played just four days (24th October) after the conclusion of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Dubai. The following games are scheduled to be played on the 27th and 29th of October respectively. All of them are day-night fixtures with the match scheduled to start at 1:30 PM IST.
India have played just 12 matches in the ongoing cycle of the Women’s ODI Championship. They have 10 wins, one loss and one tie and are placed fifth. However, they have already qualified for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 by virtue of being the hosts. Meanwhile, New Zealand are placed sixth on the points table after 18 games. They have eight wins, eight losses and a couple of no-results.
New Zealand Women last played ODI cricket back in April this year and they lost the three-match series against England 1-2. India played South Africa at home in July and beat them 3-0.
New Zealand Women’s first bilateral tour to India since 2015
These two teams last played an ODI series against each other back in February 2022. New Zealand Women beat India Women 4-1 at home. However, this will be New Zealand Women’s first tour to India in nine years. The last time they toured India for a bilateral series was back in 2015 when India won the ODI series 3-2 and New Zealand emerged victorious in the T20I series 2-1.
The White Ferns currently have progressed to the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. It is their first top-four appearance in the T20 World Cup since 2016. They beat India Women by 58 runs in their opening encounter which played a decisive role in helping them reach the semi-finals.
