Australia and England squads announced for 2025 Women Ashes clash

The squads for Australia and England for the 2025 Women Ashes have been announced. Both teams will clash in the three-match ODI, three-game T20I series and a solitary test match from January 12 to 30.  Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart will host the ODIs, while the T20I games will take place in Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide. MCG will host the exciting one-off red-ball game.

Heather Knight will lead the England side across all formats in the presence of other veteran players like Sophie Ecclestone, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Danni Wyatt-Hodge. Freya Kemp and Linsey Smith (both T20 squad) and Bess Heath (T20 and Test squad) are named in the Ashes squad for the first time.

The visitors will travel to Sydney on January 2 and be involved in a warm-up match against the Governor General’s XI on January 9 ahead of the series.

Meanwhile, the hosts have only announced their white-ball squads, and will make their test squad public in the coming days. Alyssa Healy will captain the squad, but is not likely to don the gloves due to a troublesome knee. In place of her, Beth Mooney will serve as the wicket-keeper. The likes of Ashleigh Gardner, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland will play a crucial role for the Australian team in the series.

Georgia Voll, who impressed with her performances in the ODI series against India, has been included in both squads. The swashbuckling batter, Grace Harris, will mark her presence in the T20I squad. The left-arm spinner, Sophie Molineux will be unavailable for the series as she will undergo a knee surgery in January.

What transpired in last Women Ashes?

The last Women’s Ashes took place in June-July 2023 across multiple venues in England. A one-off test witnessed the Australian team winning by 89 runs in Nottingham.

The England side secured a 2-1 victory in the T20I series, where all the contests went down to the wire. They prevailed 2-1 in the ODI leg, while winning the final game by 69 runs.

Nat Sciver-Brunt was the finest batter in the series with 404 runs, while Ashleigh Gardner scalped 23 wickets in seven games.

On the basis of points awarded for a test (four) and ODI and T20I (two each), the Ashes 2023 was drawn.
