BCCI's new guideline for Indian players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed new guidelines for the Indian men’s team after their 3-1 loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

From now on, the cricketer’s wives and family members will face restrictions on their stay during the overseas tours. They will only be allowed to stay for a maximum of two weeks for a 45-day tour. Meanwhile, for short tours, their visits will be trimmed to seven days.

The developments come into the fore after the disastrous Australia tour, where all was not well in the Indian dressing room. During the series, the legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his shocking retirement, a senior player projecting himself to be ‘Mr. Fix It’ and Rohit Sharma dropping himself from the final game.

Moreover, BCCI has mandated all Indian players need to travel together on the team bus and would also have to pay for their extra luggages. Until now, there was no imposition of travelling together and players generally planned their tour according to their own convenience.

Notably, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah took their own transport to travel in Australia with their families, while other players travelled together. Also, there were reports of the Indian team not celebrating the Perth victory together.

Moreover, head coach Gautam Gambhir’s manager will not be permitted to sit in the VIP Box or the same hotel as the team. Instead, he will have to accomodate himself in an another hotel.

The move comes ahead of the Champions Trophy, which will see India play their all games in Dubai from February 19 to March 9.

BCCI mulls for performance-based pay structure for Indian team

BCCI's new guideline for Indian players

BCCI’s review meeting took place in Mumbai last week to discuss the performances of the Indian side in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. During the discussion, the trio of chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma are said to have agreed on the performance-based pay structure for the players in the Indian team.

As per a report by Indian Express, the players face a risk of variable pay cuts if their output fell short of expectations.

“It was one of the suggestions given that players should be held accountable, and if their performance is deemed not fit as per expectations, they should face variable pay cuts,” Indian Express quoted a source.

“There was a detailed discussion on the Border Gavaskar Trophy performance and what all went wrong and the course correction required. But do not expect a hurried decision from the new dispensation of BCCI,” a source privy to developments in the Board told Press Trust of India.
