There is a rumour that is doing rounds that India will not wear the official Champions Trophy 2025 logo on their jerseys. Since it contains the name “Pakistan”, they are averse to it and their jersey may just have a part of the official logo.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed that they will follow ICC guidelines and protocol.

We will follow whatever are the ICC guidelines,” the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia was quoted saying to Cricbuzz. When asked specifically about the Pakistan part in the logo, Saikia reiterated that they will ‘follow the ICC directive.

Prior to every tournament, all participating teams need to send their designated jerseys to the ICC for approval. Be it the training kits or the match-playing ones, the ICC needs to give the teams a green signal before they can use it. Pakistan wore the jersey with India’s name imprinted on it for the 2023 World Cup. India may follow suit for the Champions Trophy 2025.

India and Pakistan have had political tensions over the last couple of decades. That has had a direct impact on the cricketing ties and relations as well. India and Pakistan have not played in a bilateral series since 2012. India last travelled to Pakistan in 2008 for the Asia Cup and haven’t been there since. Their last bilateral series in Pakistan was in early 2006.

Thus, with the Indian government deny permission to play in Pakistan, the Champions 2025 Trophy had to be shifted to a hybrid model. India’s games have been scheduled in Dubai. If India reach the knockouts, they will continue playing in Dubai.

The opening ceremony is expected to be hosted in Karachi either on the 16th or 17th of February. The captain’s photo shoot will take place there as well. However, it is unclear whether Rohit Sharma will fly to Pakistan for the event ahead of the eight-team tournament. Saikia admitted that it is something that hasn’t been discussed. Moreover, the BCCI hasn’t communicated anything to the ICC on the matter yet.

It [Rohit travelling to Pakistan] has not yet been discussed. It is not on the agenda yet,” the BCCI Secretary was quoted saying to ESPNCricinfo.

India’s first Champions Trophy game is scheduled on the 20th of February against Bangladesh in Dubai. They face arch-rivals Pakistan on the 23rd before they go up against New Zealand on the 2nd of March.
