Sai Sudharshan underwent a surgery for a sports hernia. The Gujarat Titans left-hander took to social media to share the update of his surgery and thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with his IPL franchise for supporting him through this injury.
He posted a picture with a couple of the hospital staff post the surgery.
“Will be back stronger in no time. A big thank you to the medical team and BCCI for their efforts and support. Thank you, Titans family, for your love and support,” Sai Sudharshan posted on X.
Sudharshan has been on the fringes of the Indian team across formats. Impressive returns in the last two seasons of the IPL along with consistent performances in domestic cricket earned him a maiden ODI call-up during India’s tour of South Africa last year. He played three games and scored two half-centuries on that tour.
In July this year, he made his T20I debut but did not get to bat. That is the only T20I he has played so far. As far as Test cricket is concerned, he has played a few games for India ‘A’.
Good recent returns for Sudharshan

He was a part of the India ‘A’ squad that travelled to Australia prior to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The 25-year-old struck a fine hundred in the second innings of the first unofficial Test in Mackay. He failed in both innings in the second match. In the two Ranji Trophy games he played, Sudarshan got scores of 82 (vs Saurashtra) and 213 (vs Delhi). He had even got a ton in the last round matches in the Duleep Trophy.
With Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill unavailable, he was in contention to be added to India’s Test squad. However, the selectors went in favour of Devdutt Padikkal who made his Test debut earlier this year.
After the India ‘A’ tour, the Tamil Nadu batter played just one game in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 before he flew to London to undergo surgery for a sports hernia. It means that he is likely to miss the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 which starts on the 21st of December.
Sudharshan was retained by Gujarat Titans (GT) for a sum of INR 8.5 crore. He got 362 runs in eight games at an average of 51.71 and a strike-rate of 141.40 in the IPL 2023. In IPL 2024, he scored 527 runs at an average of 47.90 while striking at 141.28.
