“I am trying to help them” – Jasprit Bumrah intends to pass on his experience to other pacers in BGT

Jasprit Bumrah is India's top bowler in BGT

India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah gave a definite answer to reporter’s question of whether he is frustrated by not getting support of other bowlers. Bumrah’s comments came during a post-day conference of the ongoing Gabba Test, which is currently poised towards Australia’s favor. The visitors are at 51/4 in response to Australia’s staggering total of 445.

The Australian innings saw Bumrah opening the floodgates for the Indian team. He eventually emerged as the team’s wrecker-in-chief with six wickets. However, his effort was overshadowed by impressive centuries from Travis Head (152) and Steve Smith (101).

The other pacers, Mohammed Siraj (2/97) and Akash Deep (1/95) couldn’t be potent enough, while Ravindra Jadeja (0/95) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (1/65) couldn’t be effective enough either.

Bumrah opined that the Indian bowling unit is currently in a transition phase, and he is trying to help them understand conditions Down Under and the technique to secure breakthroughs.

“We don’t want to get into that mindset where we’re pointing fingers at each other. As a bowling unit, we are in transition. So it’s my job to help others. I have played a little more than them, so I am trying to help them. We have 11 players and I don’t look at it like I have to do extra ,” he said.

Bumrah further thinks a cushion needs to be given to the inexperienced players to prove their worth. He feels the right amount of support and guidance will help the bowlers prepare for the big games.

“We had a little more experienced side when we came here last time but this is a journey that every team will go through. Nobody’s born with all the experience, nobody’s born with all the skills. You keep learning and you get better.”

Can India save a rain-disrupted BGT game at Gabba?

The Gabba test has literally seen half of the game’s duration being disrupted due to rain. After the rain stopped Day 1’s play, the following day saw Australia piling up a huge total on the board, courtesy of Travis Head and Steve Smith.

On Day 3 (Monday), Alex Carey continued his impressive momentum to score 70 off 88, as Australia slammed 445 on the board.

The visitors were expected to be under pressure in response to Australia’s total, which showed up early on in the innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a four off Mitchell Starc on the first ball, but was instead caught at the square leg region on the second delivery.

Shubman Gill (1), Virat Kohli (3) and Rishabh Pant (9) also failed to live up to the expectations. Before the rain showers erupted, India were at 51/4, with KL Rahul (33*) and Rohit Sharma (0*) at the crease.
