The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the list of cricketers nominated for the annual ICC awards 2024. 12 individual awards are up for grabs, with shortlists in nine categories. Fans have the opportunity to cast their votes to choose their picks for various categories. Fan voting results will be combined with the choices made by the prominent panel to decide the final winner, which will be announced in late January.
Four Indian cricketers are shortlisted for the coveted awards. Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana is among the four players to get a shot at the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award. In 12 innings, Mandhana amassed 743 runs at an average of 61.91 with four centuries and emerged as the leading run-getter in the format.
Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh has stake a strong claim to be announced as the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year. The left-arm pacer was sensational this year with 36 wickets in 18 games, while playing a key role in India’s T20 World Cup victory.
The young spinner Shreyanka Patil finds her name among the contenders for the Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year. In 13 T20I games, Patil scalped 15 wickets, while picking four in the two 50-over games.
India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is among the four players nominated for the Test Cricketer of the Year award. Bumrah had an exceptional 2024, where he returned with 71 wickets in 13 tests at an exceptional average of 14.92. He is currently the finest bowler in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 30 wickets in four games.

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam is another candidate for the Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, as he leads the charts with 738 runs. Meanwhile, Travis Head (539) and Sikandar Raza (573 runs & 24 wickets) also produced impressive performances in the shortest format.
Joe Root (1556 runs @ 55.57), Kamindu Mendis (1049 runs @ 74.92) and Harry Brook (1100 runs @55.00) are credible competitors to Jasprit Bumrah for the Test Cricketer of the Year award. Interestingly, Root and Brook forged a 454-run partnership to set up an infamous win for the England side.
Chamari Athapaththu, Annabel Sutherland and Laura Wolvaardt mark their presence in two categories, on account of terrific performances across the white-ball formats.
