Root Reflects on the Special Moment with His Dad

Joe Root after the day’s play spoke to Sky Sports: “It was a pretty cool feeling. … I’m very proud and nice to share a moment with my dad walking off the field. That was really quite special. They are all things in a few years’ time I might be able to look back and enjoy. At the minute, I still have a lot of cricket to play.It is always a new opportunity to get your team into a position to win the game. As a group, to be smart and get them to consistently five or six an over made us get to that position earlier.”

To achieve this feat, Root joined the elite group of cricketers who scored centuries in both innings at the long-established Lord’s Cricket Stadium Now he has George Headley (1939), and Graham Gooch (1990), and Michael Vaughan (2004) shares the same list.

Root’s knock of 103 off 121 balls was a blend of composure and dedication, including ten boundaries that showcased his power and composure under pressure, However, his retirement did little to disguise the significance of his achievements. As when he left the surroundings his father greeted him with a warm hug, a gesture that captured the satisfaction and joy of the moment. Currently 7th on the all-time Test run-scorers list, Root’s career statistics are a beacon and result to his consistency and quality that includes 12,377 runs in 145 matches, 64 half centuries and 34 centuries.
