Protea pacer Kagiso Rabada became the fastest bowler in test cricket to pick up 300 wickets in terms of “balls bowled”. South Africa is currently playing a two-match test series against Bangladesh in Bangladesh.
Rabada needed just 1 wicket to achieve this feat. And he reached the milestone after he clean-bowled Mushfiqur Rahim in the first test against Bangladesh. He has been amongst the best pacers in world cricket and arguably the best for South Africa in recent times.
Rabada took his 300th wicket after bowling 11,817 deliveries which is better than the likes of Waqar Younis (12,602), Dale Steyn (12,605) and Allan Doland (13,672). He is the 7th fastest bowler in terms of matches played to pick 300 wickets. Dennis Lillee (56 tests) is the fastest followed by Richard Hadlee (61), Malcolm Marshall (61), Dale Steyn (61), Allan Donald (63) and Glenn McGrath (64).
He has been a consistent performer in all three formats for the Proteas but his test record is just exceptional. Before the first test against Bangladesh, Rabada had 299 wickets in 64 games at an average of 22.08 and an excellent bowling strike rate of 39.40.
Kagiso Rabada and Wiaan Mulder stunned Bangladesh
The first test between Bangladesh and South Africa at Dhaka started with the hosts opting to bat first after winning the toss. But it was Kagiso Rabada and Wiaan Mulder who stunned the hosts in the first spell itself. Both picked up 3 wickets each with Keshav Maharaj also picking up a 3-fer.
Bangladesh were bundled out for just 106 in their first innings. Rabada and Mulder had them at 45-5 at one stage. South Africa scored 140 for 6 wickets in their first innings. Kyle Verreynne (18* runs) and Wiaan Mulder (17* runs) are at the crease for the Proteas. Taijul Islam picked up 5 wickets for Bangladesh.
The conditions in this game will get difficult for batting. A 34-run lead with 6 wickets in hand gives South Africa the upper hand in the game as of now.
