Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar recently achieved a major milestone in white-ball cricket. The 25-year-old has now gone past the 50-wicket mark across the limited-over formats.
The left-arm pacer achieved the feat while playing for Goa in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game against Odisha on December 21 in Jaipur. He returned with figures of 3/61 off 10 overs and helped the side to win the game by 27 runs. However, the recent outing saw him finish with figures of 0/35 off five overs and contribute 14 runs.
Arjun made his domestic debut in the 2020-21 season for Mumbai. However, he shifted to the Goa state side ahead of the 2022-23 season for better opportunities amid tough competition in finding a place in the Mumbai side. He wanted to appear in more games in order to prove his worth and progress in his career.
The all-rounder made his first-class debut in Goa’s Ranji Trophy game against Rajasthan in December 2022. Since then, he has scalped 37 wickets in 17 games at an average of 33.51, with best match figures of 6/112.
Despite being part of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL in the last few years, Arjun Tendulkar has featured in only five games and picked up three wickets.
When MI captain Rohit Sharma praised Arjun Tendulkar
Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma once praised Arjun Tendulkar’s talent after he returned with figures of 2.5-0-18-1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2023 season. It was his first IPL wicket, which saw him dismiss Bhuvneshwar Kumar, as MI won the game by 14 runs.
In the post-match presentation, Rohit mentioned the growth of Tendulkar in the last few years, and specifically pointed out his pace and toe-crushing yorkers.
“Arjun has been a part of this team for the last three years [though he didn’t make the XI]. I have seen him grow over the years. He understands what he wants to do and he is quite confident about what he wants to do for the team as well.
“We saw in this lead up to the IPL what he was doing; he was bowling fast, nailing those yorkers, and quite clear in his plans as well. Keeping things easy – that’s what he is trying to do [for the team]. He is trying to swing the new ball and bowl yorkers at the death.”
Arjun Tendulkar was recently picked by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 auction for his base price of INR 30 lakh.
