The Round 6 of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 kickstarted on January 23, with a total of 16 matches simultaneously taking place across India. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer were some of the international cricketers who are taking part in this round of India’s premier domestic first-class competition.
Rohit and Jaiswal appeared for the Mumbai side in their clash against Jammu & Kashmir in BKC ground. Jaiswal, who was the Indian team’s highest run-scorer in the World Test Championship with 1,798 runs, was unfortunately dismissed early. The southpaw could score only 4, before being trapped LBW by Aquib Nabi. Soon, Umar Nazir induced a leading edge of Rohit Sharma and sent him packing for 3 off 19.
Shreyas Iyer also marked his presence in the star-studded Mumbai side, led by Ajinkya Rahane. Although Iyer got off to a terrific start, scoring a four and a six, he was dismissed for 11 off 7 by Yudhvir Singh Charak. Captain Rahane (12) and Shivam Dube (0) also failed to live up to the expectations.
Shardul Thakur’s impactful knock of 51 off 57 helped Mumbai to post a respectable total of 120, as Charak and Nabi picked four wickets each.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant could score only 1 off 10 for Delhi, before getting dismissed by Saurashtra’s spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja in Rajkot. Interestingly, Ravindra Jadeja finished with five wickets in the same innings and played a key role to bundle out Delhi for 188.
Shubman Gill made his return to the Ranji Trophy and captained the Punjab side in their clash against Karnataka in Bengaluru. The right-hander was dismissed for 4 off 8 by Abhilash Shetty. Surprisingly, Punjab were all-out for a meager total of 55.
Rohit Sharma’s visit to Pakistan still unconfirmed

As per standard protocol of the ICC events, Pakistan has requested BCCI to allow Rohit Sharma to visit Pakistan for the captains event ahead of the Champions Trophy. The captains generally engage in a photoshoot, opening ceremony and press conference to kickoff the event.
However, BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia has revealed that the matter has not yet been discussed within the board.
“It [Rohit travelling to Pakistan] has not yet been discussed. It is not on the agenda yet,” Devjit Saikia, the BCCI’s newly-appointed secretary, told ESPNcricinfo.
It is worth noting that the Indian team will play their Champions Trophy games in UAE, after both countries agreed to a hybrid model whenever their neighbours host an ICC event. The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan took place in 2012, but continue to clash in World Cups and Asia Cups.
