Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja feels the participation in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 have worked wonders for him in getting back to good bowling form.

Jadeja was a part of Saurashtra’s XI in two Ranji Trophy games in January 2025 ahead of the England series and the Champions Trophy. He returned with figures of 5/66 & 7/38 and contributed 38 against Delhi to help the side win the game by 10 wickets. He then didn’t throw down any overs, but scored 19 in his solitary innings against Assam.

Ravindra Jadeja has emerged as India’s finest bowler in the ongoing ODI series against England. In the first game held in Nagpur, he finished with figures of 3/26 off nine overs. The second fixture in Cuttack saw him take three more wickets, while conceding only 35 runs off 10 overs.

Jadeja feels his decision to not take a break after Border-Gavaskar Trophy and playing Ranji Trophy helped him immensely in maintaining his line-length.

“I’m playing for the first time (ODI) in almost two years (1.5 years) after the World Cup final. I have to get used to this format. I think the domestic game helped me a lot,” Jadeja told reporters in Cuttack after India’s four-wicket win.

“I bowled in 30-odd overs in the Ranji trophy. That’s why the rhythm was consistent,” he continued.

“Be it in the Test match or in the ODIs, I try and bowl the same line and length. There was a continuity in the rhythm because the break wasn’t that long. I think the domestic game helped me a lot,” he added.

Ravichandran Ashwin hails ‘Jackpot Jango’ Ravindra Jadeja

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently took to his YouTube channel to discuss India’s performances in the first ODI fixture against England with journalist Vimal Kumar. During the discussion, Ashwin praised Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round brilliance and feels he is under-appreciated by the media and the fans.

“Our media fails to appreciate when a player does well. Whenever we lose, everyone becomes a villain. He dismissed Joe Root (in the 1st IND vs ENG ODI). Jadeja goes always under the radar. He is a “Jackpot Jango”. He is +10 in the field, also bowls well and bats in pressure situations as well. We don’t give Jadeja enough credit,” he said on his YouTube channel in the show Ash Ki Baat.

Notably, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja emerged as India’s potent duo in Test cricket in the last decade, where they collectively took 587 wickets.
