Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s latest Instagram story caught attention of the cricket fans. The story saw Jadeja posting a picture of his Indian Test jersey, which he wore during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia.
After Ravichandran Ashwin’s shocking international retirement mid-way during the BGT, there have been rumors of other senior Indian players also calling it quits on their Test career. Namely, Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the shortest format after the title-winning run in the 2024 T20 World Cup
Check out Ravindra Jadeja’s Instagram story:
Ravindra Jadeja had a strictly average BGT, where he could accumulate only 135 runs and pick up four wickets in three games. Although, he managed to save the Brisbane Test with his impressive 77-run knock, his performances in the last two Tests were disappointing.
With India out of the World Test Championship (WTC) final and the next Test series being held in England in June, there have been rumors about Jadeja not being part of the long-term plan of BCCI’s selection committee. It is highly likely that the selectors and head coach Gautam Gambhir might move on from Jadeja and give chances to younger players.
The hint about Ravindra Jadeja’s future might become clear when India announces their ODI squad for England and the Champions Trophy. A transition is certainly on the cards for the national team, but it all depends upon the selectors, whether they want to give longer rope to the veteran all-rounder.
What is Ravindra Jadeja’s Test record in England?

Ravindra Jadeja made his Test debut in December 2012 and played his first red-ball game in England in 2014. Since then, he has played 12 games in the country, scoring 642 runs and 27 wickets.
Jadeja’s best knock of 104 off 194 came in Birmingham in July 2022, which eventually came in a losing cause. Meanwhile, he has registered his best match figures of 7/258 on England soil at The Oval in September 2018.
Ravindra Jadeja’s performances certainly haven’t been satisfactory in England and there lies a room for improvement in both departments. However, given the swing-friendly conditions and little or assistance to the spinners, Jadeja’s record isn’t too disappointing.
It will be interesting to see whether the selectors adopt a fresh approach for the WTC 2025-27 cycle. The five-match Test series England series will kickstart this cycle and the same set of players will be playing for the side in the next two years.
