The Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will commence on 22nd November 2024 at Perth. Just ahead of this series, India A will tour Australia for 2 unofficial test matches against Australia A. The India “A” squad will then play a practice game against the main Indian side at Perth. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan likely to return to the red-ball setup.

The Border Gavaskar Trophy is one of the best test rivalries in world cricket and fans from both countries are waiting eagerly for this marquee series. The first unofficial test between India “A” and Australia A will start on 31st October and the second match is scheduled on 7th November. The venues for these games will be the Great Barrier Reef Arena in MacKay and the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) respectively.

India will be playing the third test against New Zealand from 1st November and they’re also scheduled to play South Africa for a 4-match T20I series against the Proteas from November 15th. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the T20I side in South Africa which is expected to be similar to the T20I squad which played against Bangladesh last week. Although Mayank Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana are part of the travelling reserves for the upcoming test series against New Zealand and can very well be included in the India A squad as well.

Possible return for Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan in the red-ball setup

With two teams on different tours and the India A tour coming up, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are expected to return to the red-ball setup after both players were declined central contracts by the BCCI earlier this year.

Dhruv Jurel will be playing in the third test against the Kiwis so Abhishek Porel is likely to be the backup keeper with India A. The likes of Devdutt Padikkal, Raja Patidar and Sai Sudarshan are also expected to be in the India A squad.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to lead the India A side after he was named the captain of the Rest of India team in the Irani Cup recently and there are talks that he’ll be competing with Abhimanyu Easwaran for the backup opener for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Manav Suthar and Tanush Kotian are expected to be the spinners in the India A squad. Yash Dayal, Mukesh Kumar and Ricky Bhui are also expected to be with the India A squad.

India A’s likely squad for Australia tour: Ruturaj Gaikwad (C), Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shreyas Iyer, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Sai Sudharsan, Ricky Bhui, Ishan Kishan (WK), Abhishek Porek (WK), Manav Suthar, Tanush Kotian, Harshit Rana, Yash Dayal, Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar
