Shubman Gill trains at Punjab Stadium ahead of the Duleep Trophy

Team India’s opener Shubman Gill shared a snapshot of preparations for the upcoming 2024-25 domestic season on Instagram on Monday, September 2. Gill, who was recently seen working on the white ball tour of Sri Lanka, where he was serving as the vice-captain, is ready for the challenges ahead. Earlier, he led India to a 4-1 win over Zimbabwe in the 5-match T20 series.

During the Sri Lanka tour, Gill managed 73 runs in the 2 T20s but struggled in the ODI series, where he managed just 57 runs in 3 innings to win the first game and beat India winning 0-2 in the ODI series.

Leadership in the Duleep Trophy 2024

After the tour, the 24-year-old cricketer took a little holiday in Greece. He is now all set to lead Team A in the Duleep Trophy 2024, which begins on September 5. In his recent Instagram post, he shared a video of Gill training at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium, where he ‘ volunteered when it happened.

In the Duleep Trophy, the A team has outstanding players like Mayank Aggarwal, KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav. This is an excellent platform for players to regain their physical condition and get vital competitive practice before the start of the home season.

Gill, who represented India in 25 Tests, amassed 1,492 runs at an average of 35.52 with 4 centuries. His ODI record is even more impressive, scoring 2328 runs in 47 matches at an average of 58.20, including six centuries and 13 fifties.

After that, India will host New Zealand for a 3-Test series from October 16. The year will continue with four T20 series in South Africa, making the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar series start on November 22 in Perth. As Gill intensifies his preparations, he focuses not only on himself but also on Team A in the Duleep Trophy, setting the tone for an inside season is difficult and important before him.

With the Indian team gearing up for a busy schedule that includes key series against Bangladesh, New Zealand and the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Gill’s quality and leadership will be a thing crucial in determining India’s success in the 2024-25 domestic season.
