Sourav Ganguly has been appointed as the new director of JSW Sports. The former India captain will oversee and spearhead all the cricketing properties owned by JSW Sports.
The GMR Group and JSW Sports co-own the Delhi Capitals franchise in the IPL and the WPL. Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 league is solely owned by JSW Sports. There’s a rotation policy between the two where each side handles the management operations for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL and the other will manage the WPL side for two years.
So now it’s time for the GMR Group to take over the management operations for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL and JSW Sports will manage the Delhi Capitals in the WPL for the next two years. Since Pretoria Capitals is solely owned by the JSW Group, Ganguly will now oversee the franchise in the South Africa 20 league.
JSW founder Parth Jindal said, “Dada has always had a special place· at JSW Sports. For us, he is family first and then the cricketing icon that he is. I’ve said this in the past and it stands true even today – he is one of the sharpest brains in cricket and we will always stand to benefit from his guidance and wisdom of the sport.”
The new Director of JSW Sports, Sourav Ganguly said, “I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the JSW Group and the Jindal family personally and professionally which made this an easy decision.”
He concluded with, “JSW Sports has been doing visionary work across the board, and I am pleased to be able to lend my experience to all its cricketing projects.”
