Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has surpassed legendary Indian keeper MS Dhoni in an unique record. He now has hit 339 sixes in the shortest format, overtaking Dhoni’s tally of 338 sixes in T20s.

Suryakumar achieved the feat during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final between Mumbai and Madhya Pradesh. The 34-year-old slammed 48 off 35, with four fours and three sixes, to emerge as the top-scorer for Mumbai, as they chased down the 175-run total to lift the coveted title.

‘SKY’ made his T20 debut in 2010 and made his international debut in 2021. He rose to the top of the T20I batting charts with his consistent form and ability to convert his starts into a big knock. Currently, he is ranked No. 4 in the rankings and has scored 2,570 runs in 78 T20Is, with four centuries.

Rohit Sharma leads the charts with 525 sixes in T20s among Indian players. Interestingly, ‘Hitman’ holds the record for hitting most maximums (205) in the T20I format. He is also the top-scorer in T20Is, slamming 4,231 runs in 159 games, with five centuries.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is the next Indian on the list with 416 maximums to his name in T20s. Kohli and Rohit both bid farewell to the shortest format after helping India to win the T20 World Cup. However, both will feature in the IPL 2025. Sanju Samson is fifth among the Indian batters with 334 sixes in 290 appearances.

Surya will look to continue his impressive run as a captain of the T20I team. Under him, India has won 14 out of the 17 games. Recently, the young Indian side prevailed 3-1 against South Africa in a four-match T20I series, which kickstarted the team’s preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

‘SKY’ represented Mumbai in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored 132 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 132. His top knock of 70 came against Services in the league stage.

Ahead of the England series, Suryakumar Yadav will be seen representing the state side in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is set to be played from December 21 to January 18.
