It has been a remarkable turnaround for Varun Chakravarthy. After making his debut in 2021 and playing just six T20Is, he made his comeback after three years in October last year and he hasn’t looked back since.
Since the Tamil Nadu mystery made his comeback in T20I cricket, he has picked up 27 wickets in just 10 games and he has an economy rate of 7.40. He has a bowling strike-rate of 8.8 in this period and he has taken a couple of five-wicket hauls.
In the ongoing series against England, he has taken 10 wickets in just three matches. Hence, that has resulted in Chakravarthy’s big surge in the ICC T20I rankings for bowlers. He has jumped 25 places to storm into the top 10 and sits on the 5th spot.
Arshdeep Singh who was crowned as the ICC T20I Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024 is the other Indian bowler in the top 10. The left-arm pacer has three wickets in two T20Is in the ongoing series against England. Axar Patel gained five places to move up to the 11th spot.
Meanwhile, Adil Rashid has regained his spot at the top of the bowlers rankings in the shortest format. The 36-year-old England leg-spinner has picked up three wickets in as many games at an economy rate of 5.60.
He had first reached the No. 1 spot in the ICC T20I rankings for bowlers back in December 2023 and remained there for nearly a year before Akeal Hosein went past him last month.
Tilak Varma moves to No. 2 in ICC T20I rankings for batters

As far as batters are concerned, Tilak Varma has surged ahead and occupies the No. 2 spot on the T20I rankings for batters. His exceptional run of form where he racked up 336 runs in his last five T20I knocks and was dismissed just once, creating the record for most T20I runs between dismissals.
He is 23 points behind Head who is currently in Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series. A couple of good scores could well take Varma over Head and if he manages to do that, the 22-year-old will become the youngest-ever batter to reach No. 1 in T20I rankings. Abhishek Sharma is the other big gainer who moved up 59 spots to occupy the 40th spot.
