Former India player Ajay Jadeja has defended Indian coach Gautam Gambhir. He says that it is too early to judge Gambhir’s tenure as India’s head coach.
India lost the ODI series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka and then lost 3-0 to New Zealand at home. After these performances, Gambhir is under constant fire from the fans and many cricket experts as well.
Gambhir had the experience of working with IPL teams as a mentor but had no experience of being the head coach of a national side. His recent comments on Ricky Ponting didn’t leave a great impression on the cricketing fraternity.
India came back strongly as they defeated Australia by 295 runs in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy test. If India wins this test series then surely Gambhir will be praised by the fans.
Don’t think it is time to judge Gautam Gambhir says Ajay Jadeja
Speaking to PTI, Ajay Jadeja said that it’s too early to judge Gautam Gambhir and we should enjoy him and not judge him.
Jadeja said, “I think you are being unfair to him (Gautam Gambhir). If you will start judging people on the basis of their coaching role or whatever way it is being looked at, it is too short a time to for people to be judged”.
He further added, “If you are not convinced that he is good, then one performance here or there will be able to convince anyone. I don’t think it is the time to judge him, it is the time we should enjoy him”.
Jadeja also highlighted Gambhir’s straightforwardness in the press conferences. He said that it was always expected of him to talk about what he thinks.
The former India player concluded with, “So, there are phases and it will come, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. So, I won’t go in that direction and start judging him in six months”.
“You knew what you were asking for and what you were getting. He is a very clear-cut person and he has made it clear throughout his life. So, what you are seeing now is what everyone expected him to do”.
