Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh led Australia to a T20I record with 113 runs in the powerplay against Scotland on September 4.
This achievement surpassed the previous record of 102 runs set by South Africa against the West Indies last year at SuperSport Park in Centurion. Currently, Australia and South Africa are the only teams to have scored 100 or more runs in a T20I powerplay.
The West Indies have reached 98 and 92 runs in powerplays against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, respectively. Head accumulated all 26 runs that Australia scored in the final over of the powerplay, reaching a 17-ball fifty in the process. He hit five boundaries and a six off Brad Wheal’s over for Scotland.
In the over before, Marsh had made a significant impact by scoring 30 runs off Jack Jarvis’s first over. His three boundaries and three sixes set the stage for Australia to set a new record for the highest T20I powerplay score.

Marsh and Head defeat Scotland
Australia faced an early setback when Jake Fraser-McGurk was dismissed without scoring. However, Marsh and Head countered aggressively, forming a 113-run partnership for the second wicket in just 5.4 overs. Head scored the joint-fastest fifty by an Australian in T20Is, reaching it in 17 balls.
Although Head was on track for a century, he was out for 80 off 25 balls, including 12 fours and five sixes. Marsh also contributed with a rapid 39 off 12 balls. Josh Inglis added a notable 27 not out from 13 deliveries.
Earlier, Sean Abbott excelled with three wickets, supported by Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zampa, who each took two wickets. The second T20I is set for September 6 in Edinburgh.
